Technologist II – Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) – Diagnostic Imaging:
Reports to Manager – Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary imaging team, the MRI technologist II, under the direction of the MRI Manager, performs the operational activities pertaining to the MRI imaging services to ensure delivery of a high quality Diagnostic imaging service at Sidra. The MRI imaging service provides inpatient and outpatient MRI and interventional MRI procedures on pediatric and adult patients on a referral basis and medical research. They deputize for the MRI manager and are responsible for the supervision of MRI Technologist I and students within the service to ensure the continuity of service delivery. Through the production of high quality images, they are responsible to ensure a high standard of service is continually provided to all patients, parents and other hospital staff as prescribed in the patient care and facility standards set down by Sidra Medical and Research Center.
Key Role Activities:
Working independently, performs all routine and specialized MRI procedures, and associated responsibilities, as dictated by the workload in the rostered area. Plan, prioritize and organize MRI workload, ensuring the necessary patient care is provided to patients of all ages.
Acts independently in the assessment of referrals for MRI examinations, taking full responsibility to ensure evidence-based standards of practice of MRI imaging are applied to the examination. Utilizes skills to assess a patient’s condition, often acute, and decides on an appropriate method to obtain a diagnostic image from a range of options. Performs all MRI procedures, responsibilities and provides patient care to patients of all ages as required
Provide leadership, supervision and training to junior diagnostic imaging staff. Advise other imaging technologists and students during MRI procedures as required.
Participate in standby and on call roster systems for the Diagnostic Imaging service, in imaging areas appropriate to training and qualifications, as designated by senior staff.
Provide support and relief for department supervisors as required.
Have a role in ensuring that systems and standards that promote patient safety and safe practices for delivering patient care for the modality are adhered to as directed. Provide modality expertise in reference to the MRI service, assist in the maintenance and development of the MRI service.
Adhere to departmental and applicable organizational policies, procedures, regulations relevant to the MRI patient care team. Maintain accurate and concise records of all imaging received by the patient using the appropriate systems.
Maintaining a high level of expertise and managing faults/issues effectively to guarantee the safe operations of the MRI equipment, ensuring an efficient flow and optimal utilization of resources.
Implement directed change to effect continual improvement in services provided, and ensure compliance with all internal and external standards as well as regulatory and legal requirements.
Active involvement in the training and development of new employees on equipment and procedures in the area of operations in alignment with the departments and Sidra’s training objectives and plans.
Participation and compliance with quality improvement programs and competency assessment initiatives for the Diagnostic imaging services. Provides appraisals of staff as directed. Participates in mandatory training and actively practices continual professional development in alignment with Sidra’s professional development programs to ensure maintenance of professional licensure/accreditation.
Monitor and maintain stock levels for consumables relative to the service.
Adhere to and promote compliance with the hospital’s radiation safety and protection and MRI safety policies and associated codes of practice and take appropriate action where non-compliance is evident.

Experience:
Essential
5+ years clinical experience in MRI imaging in a North American Academic Institution or equivalent in the UK, Republic of Ireland, EU States, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand or appropriate education
Preferred
Experience in a dedicated paediatric medical imaging facility
Knowledge and clinical experience in paediatric MRI protocols and procedures
Job Specific Skills ad Abilities

Extensive functional knowledge and clinical experience in MRI
Knowledge of Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving Communications Systems (PACS).
Knowledge of IV cannulation and injection techniques
Knowledge of The Joint Commission and Joint Commission International accreditation standards and radiation safety guidelines
Demonstrated strong analytical and decision making skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Fluency in written and spoken English
Preferred
Paediatric IV cannulation and injection techniques
Teaching/educator competency
Delivery of departmental clinical/technical training programs
Qualifications:

BSc in Medical Imaging and/or equivalent
Postgraduate education relevant to MRI
Preferred
