Dow Institute of Nursing Karachi
INSTITUTE OF NURSING (ION) was established in 2006 to prepare leaders in nursing and sufficient number of highly skilled and trained nursing professionals, to provide modern skilled preventive and curative health care, besides having research capabilities. This will enhance the image of nursing profession in Pakistan.
Initially, the nursing institute started functioning in a renovated building. Simultaneously the foundation stone of the new building was laid by Prof. Ata-ur-Rahman. The new building was completed in less than 2 years time. It is a ground plus two story building, having seven lecture halls, five tutorial rooms along with skills lab, sciences and computer labs besides an auditorium administrative rooms and libraries. The Institute was shifted one year back to the new building.
The Institute has eleven full time highly qualified faculty, which conducts the academic programs and the training. Guest lectures are also being conducted by eminent speakers from abroad, AKU and other reputable Institutes.
The new state of the art building of this institute along with its hostel was completed in a record time of twenty months and the institute was shifted to its new premises in 2008. Clinical Training to nurses is provided at the Dow University Hospital in the same Ojha Campus.
This Institute has been recognized by Pakistan Nursing Council in Sept. 2007. Since 2010 additional courses of nurses have been started which include four years BS Nursing, fast track BS course and MS Nursing. Eighteen (18) months midwifery course are also being conducted at this institute.
